Bio

What We Do

With over 60 years of experience in the music industry, Jean Claudel has always remained true to the motto of Amplitude Editions: to resonate “wherever music has its rights.” A renowned publisher, respected executive, and member of the Commission of the Intellectual Property Code of Sacem (2002-2010), his career is closely tied to the house of authors, composers, and music publishers.

Amplitude. This term perfectly encapsulates Jean Claudel's journey. Firstly, because it is the name of the music publishing company he has chaired since the mid-1980s. But also because his roles as a composer and producer were largely in service of the artists whose careers he supported.

As an assistant to Léo Missir for Riviera records, a label founded by Eddie Barclay, Jean Claudel – sometimes credited under the names of Jean Fénol or John Ardley – supervised numerous recording sessions throughout the 1960s. Singers such as Daniel Guichard, Joël Daydé, or Esther Galil, and musicians like Jean-Christian Michel, Paul Gonsalves, and Pierre Porte all benefited from his talents as an artistic director.

Pianist and conductor, Jean Claudel was also the composer of several hits from the late 1960s charts, such as "Angélique," "Ma vérité," or "Mon veston à carreaux" for singer Michel Orso. In the 1970s, Claudel also participated in several albums by baritone John William.

From 1985 onwards, Jean Claudel led the group Amplitude (accepted by Sacem in 1977). Owner of the catalogues of Remipa, Yona, Carabine, Cyclade, Imperia, and Lilas Music, Amplitude stands as one of the jewels of independent French publishing, specialising in audiovisual rights and foreign rights.

From 1986 to 1999, the publisher joined the Chamber of Musical Publishing (CSDEM) where he actively engaged for his peers. This initial phase of exploring professional organisations was quickly followed by a second period from 2002 to 2010, during which Jean Claudel became a member of the Commission of the Intellectual Property Code of Sacem.

Admitted to Sacem as a composer on 3 February 1964, Jean Claudel was promoted to Permanent Member on 5 April 1979.

Following the death of Jean Claudel, it was Fred Claudel, his son and primary collaborator for many years, who took over the reins of the company. Now leading Amplitude, Fred Claudel continues his father's legacy with the same passion and commitment to music and artists.
