Bio
What We Do
In over 60 years of a music career, Jean Claudel has always remained true to the motto of the Amplitude publishing house: to resonate "wherever music has its rights". A renowned publisher, esteemed leader and member of the Intellectual Property Code Commission of Sacem (2002-2010), his journey is closely linked to the home of authors, composers, and music publishers.
Amplitude. This term perfectly summarises Jean Claudel's journey. First, because it is the name of the music publishing company he has led since the mid-1980s. But also because his roles as a composer and producer were largely dedicated to supporting the artists whose careers he fostered.
As an assistant to Léo Missir at the Riviera label, created by Eddie Barclay, Jean Claudel—sometimes credited under the names Jean Fénol or John Ardley—supervised numerous recording sessions throughout the 1960s. Singers such as Daniel Guichard, Joël Daydé, and Esther Galil, as well as musicians like Jean-Christian Michel, Paul Gonsalves, and Pierre Porte, all benefited from his talents as an artistic director.
A pianist and conductor, Jean Claudel was also the composer of several hits from the late 1960s charts, including "Angélique", "Ma vérité", and "Mon veston à carreaux" for the singer Michel Orso. In the 1970s, Claudel also contributed to several albums by baritone John William.
From 1985, Jean Claudel led the group Amplitude (registered with Sacem in 1977). Owner of the catalogues of Remipa, Yona, Carabine, Cyclade, Imperia, and Lilas Music, Amplitude is regarded as one of the highlights of independent French publishing, specialising in audiovisual rights and rights abroad.
From 1986 to 1999, the publisher joined the Chamber of Music Publishing (CSDEM), where he invested himself for his peers. This initial period of discovering professional organisations was swiftly followed by a second one from 2002 to 2010, during which Jean Claudel became a member of the Intellectual Property Code Commission of Sacem.
Admitted to Sacem as a composer on February 3, 1964, Jean Claudel was promoted to Permanent Member on April 5, 1979.
After the passing of Jean Claudel, it is Fred Claudel, his son and long-time collaborator, who takes over the reins of the company. Now at the helm of Amplitude, Fred Claudel continues his father's work with the same passion and commitment to music and artists.
